Patrick is in his 9th year coaching the Mustangs. He has been coaching at the high school or college level since 2006. He was previously the cross country / distance coach at Long Beach State and Harvard University. He was also an assistant coach at Duke University and Williams College. Patrick has coached over 20 NCAA All-Americans, multiple NCAA Champions and over 10 qualifiers to the US National Championships and Olympic Trials.
In 2025-26, Wales-Dinan led the Mustang girls to back to back CIF-NCS Championships, their 12th title in school history and the third in the last 3 years. In 2023 the boys cross country team qualified for the state championships for the 3rd consecutive time and in 2022 they garnered a top-10 finish at the CIF State Championships. On the track the girls team captured 3 consecutive EBAL Championships from 2022-2024 and in 2025 won their first NCS Tri-Valley team title in program history. During his tenure athletes have set 14 school records and garnered over 70 Top-10 all-time performances.
